Elin Hilderbrand is an American author, primarily romance novels. His novels are usually set in and around the island of Nantucket, where he lives. Born and raised in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and was previously a professor/writer at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
In 2014, the New York Post dubbed Hilderbrand “the regent queen of light, carefree summer reading.” ABC is adapting Hilderbrand’s Paradise Trilogy into a TV series starring Ellen Pompeo.
Hilderbrand spent his summers on Cape Cod, “playing soccer at low tide, collecting sea glass, digging ponds for hermit crabs, swimming to shore for the wooden raft” until his father died in a plane crash when she was just 16. He spent the following summer part-time in a factory making Halloween costumes. She promised herself that the goal for the rest of her life would be to always have a real summer. She moved to Nantucket in July 1993, took a job as a “classifieds girl” with a local newspaper, and then took up writing.
His first novels were published by St. Martin’s Press. With A Summer Affair, released in 2008, he joined Little, Brown and Company. The Perfect Match, her debut crime novel, was released in 2018.
In 1995, Hilderbrand married Chip Cunningham at Chanticleer in Siasconset, Massachusetts; They divorced in 2015. They have three children together. She has underwent a double mastectomy in June 2014.
