Did you like the S&D witches?? GOOD GOOD GOOD… Get ready to meet some of the coolest and baddest supernaturals of all time. Blood Witches are intense, aesthetic, hauntingly beautiful. There are so many new magical creatures and French-inspired folklore that they’re just the icing on the cake for this sinfully delicious cast. Seriously, they are so lively and funny and cruel. As always.

But Jordan, you say, what about our beans? Lou, Coco, Reid, and Ansel (and yes, even Beau), don’t worry. They are back. They are better (and worse) than ever. There is STEAM. There are MOCKS. The hilarity continues and the emotional payoff from the previous book is just as ripe.

Lou returns, snappy as always but giving in. disinterested. Loyal (to a mistake). And then there’s Reid, Reid forced to learn about magic in a new light. Who needs to face who he is and who he was. Your relationship flourishes. It’s hot, it’s beautiful, and I CHALLENGE YOU not to cry ugly at least once in this book.

Blood And Honey is part hilarious romp, complete with wacky troupes, steamy ponds, and magic books, and part coming-of-age story. At its core, this is a family book. A book that questions what you would sacrifice for your loved ones, how far would you go to save them. The characters’ journeys are beautifully and intricately woven together. They grow, they hurt, they hurt, they laugh and above all they love. I love these characters so much. Never before has an occupation seemed so real, so visceral. He wanted to hug each and every one of them and never let go. Trust me, you will too.

If you think you’ve seen all of our heroes in S&D, think again. Mahurin should be teaching a master class in deeper characters and sprawling worlds while remaining perfectly approachable and fun. Reading Blood & Honey is the best time I’ve had since leaving its predecessor and I literally can’t wait for the next one. Serious. I plan to read this a thousand more times to savor the beautiful forebodings, the little hints, and the genuine (and hilariously funny) moments between this family found and forced.

Shelby Mahurin’s Blood and Honey was utterly captivating and took my breath away at every turn. This book made me laugh, made me cry, shocked me, and gripped me to the bitter, bloody end. The story of this gang of misfits trying to survive the evil witch queen was not only fascinating and impressive, but the tragically beautiful romance between Lou and Reid made me wish I had the third part in my hands right now.

The magical system of the Snake and Dove series left me speechless. That nature demands balance, giving to receive, is so startlingly different from any other literary fantasy I have read before. Shelby Mahurin delivered harrowing choices and unforeseen darkness, and I can honestly say I’m obsessed with the world she created.

The enduring romance between Louise Le Blanc and Reid Diggory literally kept me hooked on the book. Her story was heartbreaking and tearful and I loved every second of it. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with such a deep, emotional, or quotable romance before. I can’t wait to finish this trilogy and finally discover the fate of Lou and Reid.
