Colleen Hoover (Margaret Colleen Fennell) (born in December 11, year 1979) is an author of young adult fiction and romance.
In January 2012 she published her first novel Slammed. In December 2012, she published Hopeless, which topped the New York Times bestseller list. Many of her works were self-published before being picked up by a publisher.
Hoover was born on December 11, 1979, in Sulfur Springs, Texas, the son of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She grew up in the Saltillo, Texas and graduated from the Saltillo High School in year 1998. In 2000 she married Heath Hoover, with whom she has three children. Hoover has a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M-Commerce. She worked in various teaching and social work positions before beginning her writing career.
In November year 2011, Hoover began her first novel, Slammed, with zero intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a songs lyric “decide what to be and go be it” from an Avett Brothers song, and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise”. Because of this, she included the Avett Brothers lyrics throughout the story. After a few months, her novel was reviewed by book blogger Maryse Black and she was given a 5-star rating, and sales of her first two books increased rapidly.
Hoover published her first novel, Slammed, in January 2012 and a sequel, Point of Retreat, in February. They reached #8 and #18 on the New York Times bestseller list in August of that year. Atria Books picked them up and re-released them on August 10. A third book in the series, This Girl, was released in April 2013.

Daniel! Oh Daniel! <3 guys, I fell so in love with this guy. He was sweet, down to earth, charming and had a lot of charisma. I couldn’t help but fall in love with his personality. Colleen Hoover writes some of the best book friends out there and Daniel has to be my favorite along with Will. He literally swooned me every time he opened his mouth because he was so charming.
Seriously, Colleen Hoover, where can I find a Daniel for myself? Her love interest Six, whom we met in the first book, was also a breath of fresh air. She is outspoken, lovable, and just another brilliant character in this book. She had to go through her own issues, having to do with being labeled a slut because of her promiscuous nature, but Six was so much more than just a very sexual teenager. She really loved her and wish we could see her perspective too.
She was also beyond excited to see Holder and Sky acting so cute together. Guys, this may be a short novel, but even Daniel’s family played a central role in the book and I loved how much they raised Daniel. Character-wise, it was phenomenal. In fact, he had more character development than some full novels I’ve read.
This book may be short, but it is full of emotion. I must say that I was surprised by the depth of the book. I knew from page one that Colleen Hoover would captivate me with her book, and she did. The epilogue of this book was absolute perfection. It’s so unforgettable and so cute. It is definitely one that I will remember for a long time. There was also a big twist that I honestly didn’t see coming, which of course only served to add to my enjoyment of this book.
The love! My God, the romance! <3 I couldn’t help but root for Daniel and Six even though I wanted Daniel all to myself because they were a perfect match. I was a little doubtful that instant love made me feel disconnected from romance, but honestly, I never should have doubted Colleen Hoover. Even her instant love is so damn realistic that you can’t help but melt in a puddle of slime.
I tell everyone that Colleen Hoover is a witch because she once again managed to enchant me with her beautiful and relaxing style of writing that she made me feel like she was dancing in a field of poppies. Your writing makes my heart burst with joy.
Despite being only a short novel, Finding Cinderella is a book that will appeal to all romantics and have you swooning over these characters. If there is a novel that you should read, it is definitely Finding Cinderella.
While hiding in a pantry during some time off, Daniel meets a girl in the dark who wants and needs to get into someone else’s shoes. This girl, whose name he doesn’t know, wants a fairy tale. She wants someone to love her and take care of her. So he decides to call her Cinderella. Only when Cinderella disappears does Daniel realize that he could possibly fall in love with this girl, but he never sees her again.
A year later, Daniel has just broken up with his current girlfriend and meets Six for the first time at Hope’s house. They have a bond they can’t explain until Daniel discovers they’ve met before…and all of his dreams may have come true.
What a lovely reading of Finding Cinderella! If you wanted more from Colleen Hoover, this is definitely a must read. It would be better if you had already read the other books in the Hopeless series, but this could still be a standalone book as you won’t feel like you missed anything. It’s a sweet yet emotional story that is hot, sexy, and beautifully written. And if anything, she wanted more from Six and Daniel.
I loved Daniel. I loved getting into her head. He loved her playful ways, he loved her family. I loved everything about him. It’s pretty hard not to if I’m being honest, and the same goes for Six. She’s a fun character, but she needs a connection with someone who treats her like a girl should be treated. Only with Daniel from her does she feel that there is someone there for her, besides Hope, but someone who can love her. Together they are amazing and so much fun together.
What I wasn’t expecting at the end of this story was this shocking little curveball that was added. Well done Colleen, well done! It wasn’t expected that way, but it added that extra touch to the story. He definitely bonded Six and Daniel even more. However, I would like to see another novel from them, maybe 10 years later, to see if that curve in the story is ever resolved.
Overall, I loved Finding Cinderella, it was a delightful and charming read and I’m even more excited to get my hands on Colleen’s other series, Slammed.
