As Aimee continues filming her latest film job, titled “Sometimes I Kill,” with handsome co-star Jack Anderson, amidst hot actresses, a global agent, and avid journalists, her own investigative efforts drag on and fail or generate much momentum. For the most part, its narrative feels very padded and meanders without making any serious interventions until it goes much deeper into the story, making it feel rather insubstantial.

Needless to say, I couldn’t connect with Aimee or feel much sympathy for her self-serving and over-the-top narrative. As she reveals her fears and makes clear the masks she wears to hide her true self from the world, readers’ initial sympathy quickly fades and it’s an engaging and moving sub-narrative that chronicles the life of five-year-old Clara, an impoverished one Family in Galway in 1997 who encouraged me to read.

Dismayed that her father insists that her mother’s death in childbirth is Clara’s fault, she runs away and falls victim to an unstable and rather sinister woman named Maggie, who uses her as a plug-and-play surrogate for his daughter and transplanted the Bookmaker to Essex. As she comes to terms with her new domestic situation, Ciara’s plight is shown in flashbacks through the eyes of a child, revealing her ordeal at the mercy of two unsavory people. It was never a secret that the kidnapped Ciara became Aimee and how Alice Feeney managed to take readers on a wild ride!

The story covers some pretty dark themes and contains a number of potential themes that some readers will find off-putting, but Aimee’s actual narrative is heavily melodramatic, making the novel too implausible and unbelievable to really accept. Yes, really! Likewise, the resolution is utterly impossible to digest, proving to be a genuinely vague touch to a mildly entertaining story.

It’s Aimee’s earlier narrative and backstory as a young Ciara that impresses, and part of the reason Alice Feeney’s tabloid thriller feels so inconsistent is the difference in caliber of writing and well-crafted characters in the two individual narratives. As there’s twist after twist that builds tensiong builds up and the pace picks up before an explosive finale, I had guessed the final reveal well in advance, and when it happened I Know Who You Are was so incredible I Know Who You Are made me laugh.
