Before getting into the plot, it has to be said that I was so engrossed in the story that it wasn’t until I started writing this review that I realized that the author, Samantha Downing, never gave us the name of the main character. / storyteller . Such a smart and strategic move.

Millicent, her anonymous husband (we’ll call him anonymous from now on) and her children, Rory and Jenna, seem to live almost ideal lives. They live in the neighborhood of Orlando; a prestigious private golf course, a country club community. Millicent is one of the top real estate agents in the area, Nameless is a country club tennis pro, and their children are happy, healthy teenagers.

Millicent sails on a sternboat; organic home cooked dinners prepared every night, no cell phones allowed at daily family dinners, no junk food, homework is done right after school and no one in the family would dare to argue.

Sounds pretty straight and correct? You seem to be sure! Unless you know the shocking and terrifying secret that Millicent and Nameless share; They like to kill young women! Yes, you heard right! The perfect couple next door spiced up their lives by becoming serial killers. Forget taking dance lessons or sneaking into a hotel for dates, the only activity they truly enjoy sharing is the careful planning and then executing the kidnapping and murder of a carefully chosen young victim. It’s pretty twisted.

Unsurprisingly, as things escalate, his hobby poses problems for the family. Who could have foreseen it? The first half of the book is pretty exciting, but the second half really got me. I couldn’t get it down!

The most impressive thing about My Lovely Wife book is the first novel by its author Samantha Downings. Wow!! I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next. If your next book is as good as this one, it will be on my favorites list. I can’t forget to mention the cover. I loved! It really sets the tone of the book.

My Lovely Wife plot was fascinating! I loved the way they gradually introduced me into their world with little bits of information explaining how they came to this ‘hobby’.

The character development was perfect! I called My Lovely Wife book “incredible.” The parts that really confused me were related to the characters. I didn’t miss the irony of how people who have taken such good care of their children; Worrying about every aspect of your life could kill someone just for fun. These serial killers were so damn normal in that way. I can’t stop thinking about how Downing “conditioned” me to compartmentalize the crazy, murderous side of Millicent and Nameless, so that she sometimes forgot how sick everything was.

When they were at home raising their children, it was easy to forget. There were many times throughout the book where she really hoped they would get away with it so that her children could continue their lives with these loving parents. Eventually, I chose sides, settled on the lesser evil, and completely rationalized the behavior of one of them, losing her part in the whole horrible mess. Yes, it was very well planned.

While there’s no legitimate explanation for why someone would choose to kill strangers, I never felt like there was a compelling reason for Nameless to be in favor of it. I also don’t understand why, if Nameless is as into Millicent as she claims she is (and spends a lot of time talking about how much she adores her), why she cheated in the first place. It didn’t match her unique devotion and her obsession with her.

While this is a pretty dark story with a certain level of disturbing content, it’s not overtly graphic. I wouldn’t recommend it for young adult readers or people who are quite squeamish. Again, not bad, but there is a certain rudeness to it.
