Janice Whiteaker’s “No Coming Back” will have you laughing, crying and wishing it would never end. Troy Merrick took it upon himself to help an elderly lady, Muriel, when he found her family was not there. Everyone in Moss Creek helps her, but Troy talks to her every day.
She is the family he never had as a child. Then he meets Amelie. She remains on his mind after their one night stand. It is only when he returns to help Mrs. Muriel that he meets her again and discovers that not only is she Amelie Muriel’s granddaughter, but the mess Muriel has hidden in the house makes it uninhabitable. They move in with him during a house renovation and make his life even more difficult.
He has fallen in love with Amelie but doesn’t know how to deal with it. Amelie, who has returned home from a broken relationship, just wants her art back. Getting to know each other creates some interesting situations and helps both Troy and Amelie get back to what they need. For Troy it’s Amelie and Muriel, for Amelie it’s Troy and his art, and for Muriel it’s finding a new “family” in the friends we keep. I loved this story and the return visit to Moss Creek.

This was my first book about the Moss Creek Cowboys and I kick myself for not reading this series sooner. No Coming Back can certainly be read as a stand-alone book. Other characters are mentioned, but they are only integrated into this story as family and friends. I never felt lost and will definitely come back to read the other books in this series.
Troy is a ranch hand who has lived in Moss Creek for a little over a year and has worked his way up among most of the town’s single women. Unfortunately, none of them want a long-term relationship with him. Troy has had a lack of love and family in his life and is looking for someone who can give him both.
Fleeing the end of a relationship, Amelie travels from New York to Montana to see her grandmother, Muriel, and rebuild her life her own way. A one night stand with a hot cowboy messes up their plans.
Troy and Amelie get back together when they discover that their grandmother and the woman who is caring for Troy are identical. Forced to band together to help Muriel with her house, they can’t keep their hands off each other. This passed out cowboy has a mouth on him! This book has steam, jokes and suspense.
The character development of Troy and Amelie was very well done. Both struggle with issues and both falter at times. The conflict makes sense and isn’t overly upsetting. The HEA was perfect.
I saw another reviewer mention Muriel’s “gang of grannies” and some of the other ladies in town and had to check it out. These ladies will make you laugh!
