Ronan and Larke are a couple that really doesn’t seem like it would work on the outside. But that’s the thing about the outside…there’s always so much beneath the surface that we have yet to discover. And so begins Ronan’s first week in Calamity.

Ronan joined Calamity from the San Francisco firm in search of a more relaxed and less stressful life as a lawyer. What he didn’t expect is to know his future in this first week. And for a man like Ronan, being locked out the door is a somewhat shocking experience. But fate is on his side, as the beautiful woman he has just met becomes a fixture in his life in many ways.

I love Larke so much! She’s a single mom who’s a teacher and her family are some of the early residents of Calamity, so there are a lot around town. She is also a woman who is not interested in a man; Her soul focus is her prettier daughter Wren… and I can tell you she has everyone wrapped around her little finger… even Ronan!

His jokes in this book are phenomenal. They have plenty of interactions thanks to a case Ronan decided to take on when a student plans to sue Larke for what she believes to be a wrong bad grade… and queue up the sarcastic conversations that lead to such sexy flirtations. I loved how we see a different side of Ronan as the book progresses and how he changes with every moment he spends with Larke and Wren. I loved how this book focused on a topic that we don’t often see in books when it comes to this litigation. It made my heart cry at times.

The more I read the book, the more I fell in love with our H/h. There’s really something about the way Willa Nash/Devney Perry writes that just really draws me in. Their stories are relatable and filled with characters I would most like to be friends with. And often, like in this book, there’s a twist I NEVER saw coming… seriously, I gasped out loud! Not only will I read this book over and over again, I will listen to it too! Add in the epilogue that had me grinning from ear to ear and this book is pure perfection!

From the first spark of attraction to the back and forth, Ronan and Larke’s romance made me smile and laugh! Larke had lived in Calamity all her life, so she was used to small-town gossip, but after having her daughter and becoming gossip herself, she got tired of it. So when Ronan came to town with his legal confidence and ego, Larke wasn’t too happy about catching his attention and being his new neighbor.

And boy did the two work together, I loved that Ronan had no problem making sure Larke knew how beautiful and desirable he found her. A man who knows how to flatter and take care of a woman will always make me swoon, especially when he takes the time to also woo her adorable little firefly daughter.

“Ronan was a tornado that spun me in circles. From confusion to hate to lust and admiration for this budding infatuation. It made me falter. And I kind of liked his crazy, reckless twist.”

It was such a fun plot point for the story that Ronan helped a student sue Larke for a bad grade. Nothing like a teenager demanding a perfect grade to feed the town gossip mill! I loved that what should have driven them apart attracted Ronan and Larke, the mystery of what drives Ember’s need for that perfect touch. I almost dropped my Kindle in the last part of the story, nothing like a plot twist to get my emotions going! Overall I loved this small town, a single parent romance full of banter and lots of love.
