Sophie’s mission is to get a big promotion at work. He doesn’t have many friends (one to be exact), he doesn’t really go out, he doesn’t party, but he’s excellent at working 70 hours a week. What will you do if you don’t get the promotion of your dreams? Lucas just started his new job as CEO of Fur Bebe. He knows nothing about the industry, but soon becomes involved in Sophie’s shenanigans. Will he be able to handle his new job as CEO and still find a way to be with Sophie? The two have a lot of obstacles to overcome before they can be together, and that doesn’t even include Sophie’s mom into the equation!

This story is really all about Sophie and her relationships with everyone else. Yes, Lucas is his hero, but he’s still more of a supporting character. I like Sophie because she has found her passion and is pursuing it with all her heart. It was nice to see her learning to focus on her dream and have a life outside of work.

Sure, the situations were a little over the top, but that’s what I expected in a book called Wingmom. Screaming out loud, even the villain was ridiculous! I also smiled every time Notorious D-O-G was mentioned because, c’mon, that’s funny. What I liked about Lucas was that he seemed to have multiple personalities (from Batman pajamas to ruthless CEO), but he was really just a guy trying to live up to expectations but he didn’t come up with it clear it very well. His relationship with Sophie’s mother is very sweet and touching.

Now Sophie’s mother is really something. First off, it’s definitely an animated film, but the writer does a solid job of playing off nuance and overlays. In the end, Skye is a solid character that a reader can root for because she seems real (although some of what she does is crazy). By the end of the story, Sophie has a solid group of friends and plans for the future, so it’s an uplifting story.

I find Sophie’s success a little strange, but I’ve decided to put my disbelief aside because Sophie needs a big win to come out on top in the end. To be honest, halfway through the story I wrote Lucas off as a good hero. He says and does some things that I find unforgivable. I think if the story takes place over a long period of time I might think he’s learned his lesson and really changed, but I’m not even that sure about the end. Skye is incredibly embarrassed at the beginning of the story. I got through most of it in the end, but I still think Sophie needs to set strict boundaries for her mother.

This is a contemporary romance set in Atlanta, Georgia. If you’re looking for a silly story involving dogs, you might want to check this out. I will read more by this author in the future.
