Prem doesn’t have time for romance, so it’s no surprise that his first date with Kareena goes awry. His second encounter is even worse when their on-air debate about love goes viral. Now, Prem’s community center’s biggest donor is pulling out because Prem’s reputation as an expert in heart health is at risk. To win back the donor’s goodwill from him, he must fix his image quickly and dating Kareena is his only option.

Although they have conflicting interests, the more time Prem spends with Kareena, the more he begins to believe that she could be the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. In this reimagining of The Taming of the Shrew, Prem and Kareena must admit that hate has become destiny so that Prem and Kareena can find happiness.

This story had fake dates/engagements, meddling with family members, funny jokes, strong female lead, emphasis on important issues, a bit of spice and romance. I had heard a lot about this book (and as always I was late for the train) but better late than never and I loved this book!

I immediately loved how Kareena was career driven and always striving to make things better in her life, whether it was fixing up her late mother’s house/car or doing her best at her job, she was a strong willed woman. Despite reaching some pretty big milestones, it seemed like nothing was “good enough” in the eyes of her family unless she magically got engaged, married, had kids, then that would be that big stamp of approval.

I feel like as someone who also grew up with immigrant parents, I always wanted to do my best at everything because I wanted to make sure that all of my parents’ sacrifices mean something, that I can show them that hard work pays off. Like Kareena, her family seemed to think marriage would be better for her if she found someone to settle down with, but Kareena wanted to marry for love, not convenience.

Kareena was a relatable character, one that I felt I could understand her point of view with, and sometimes I thought, “I JUST THOUGHT THAT!” For example, “Was it normal to cancel and go home and read hard?” AHH literally me too! I just want to stay home and read all day. In other words, if Kareena were a real person, I think we’d be really good friends.

As Kareena found out that her father was planning to sell her family’s home, aka the house her late mother had built from scratch, Kareena faced the impossible (but not entirely impossible) task of finding her, falling in love, and committing to buy. . her father’s house. When that happened, we became Prem Verma a.k.a. dr inserted.

Perma was what any Desi aunt would consider the perfect husband material for any daughter, and according to information that emerged very soon, Prem was still dealing with the loss of someone very dear to him. Fast-forward a bit later in the story and Prem and Kareena met at the same restaurant and immediately after sharing a few drinks and a long chat, they kissed for a bit and then it ended abruptly leaving Kareena in an awkward situation.

I found it a bit amusing how, after the failed restaurant fiasco, Prem and Kareena got together and ended up having a huge fight at the studio where Prem was filming his Dr. Dil show,” so far the second impression. With no choice but to accept a fake date/engagement so that Prem can win back his biggest investor and Kareena get the money she needs to buy her father’s house, the two had fun horseback riding… sort of if they stopped arguing. or throw food around the kitchen.

This story really showed different things from growing up in an immigrant household, being the older brother trying to live up to parental expectations, finding love, and more. He was so relatable to Kareena and admired her that he definitely didn’t give up on her belief in lowering her expectations of comfort. I was very impressed with Kareena’s backstory and insights.

The way Nisha wrote this book was not only cute and fun, but also highlighted a variety of important themes. This was truly an amazing story and definitely a must read for any fan of romantic comedies. The romance and the spice were wonderful *wink, wink and of course, from the smallest things to the biggest, the romantic gestures that Prem made for Kareena were truly wonderful. This one had a little bit of everything and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for the next book.
