For ten years I lived in a golden cage in King Midas’ golden castle.

Now I’m the prisoner of the Fourth Reich’s army, with no hope of escape.

And behind all my worries is Commander Rip: Orea’s famous brutal warrior.

When he looks at me with those black eyes, I’m captivated for a whole different reason.

I may be out of my cage, but I’m not free.

It’ll take me a minute to lift my jaw off the floor. Holy mother, this book was amazing and I don’t even know where to start to convince you that this book was amazing and you need to read it now. I expected to like it because I loved the first book, but I was obsessed!

This picks up where the first book left off and Auren is in the clutches of the King Rots army. Although she is a prisoner, she is definitely not treated as such. Auren is mostly free to go where she wants. She is fed and dressed. And she even makes some friends who make her believe she should put herself first.

I love seeing Auren struggle with her loyalty to Midas, but this newfound loyalty to herself and her supposed captures. The gilded cage she has lived in all her life is just that, a cage designed to ensnare her. She had always believed that he was meant to protect her, but Rip and his friends see it very differently.

Rest in peace.

Let’s talk about Rip because he’s FUCKING COOL! Like leaving Rhys and Hawk, I don’t need you ’cause I got Rip. She’s a very interesting character and she pushed Aura to see herself as strong and powerful. Embrace who you really are despite your fear. He wants her to wear it as a badge of honor and not something to hide. They are one and the same and he knows she must find her strength.

Also, let me tell you how quickly I changed my mind about Midas. I liked his character in the first book. Despite doing questionable things, it all seemed like he had a plan and would never hurt Auras. I fell in love too, girl. This book made me want to destroy it for the things that will be revealed!

AND THE END! If you know, you know. I don’t know how to wait for Volume 3. I think I might die young. This series has quickly become one of my absolute favorite series.

Note: Glint is the second book in a series that must be read in order. If you’re new to the Plated Prisoner series, you can check out my review of Book One: Gild HERE

Glint is the second book in Raven Kennedy’s fantasy romance series, The Plated Prisoner Series. The Plated Prisoner series is a gritty recreation of the King Midas story and I became completely obsessed with it. Glint is out today and both books are available on Kindle Unlimited, so be sure to check them out if you’re a fan of adult dark fantasy. I liked Glint even more than the first book and now that we’ve seen a touch of romance for our main character I’m even more excited to read the next book. I need him in my life now!

Glint takes place immediately after the events of Gild, when Aura and the other royal mounts are captured by the soldiers of the Fourth Kingdom. We know King Midas will stop at nothing to get his darling back, and with Glint, we finally know why! I loved learning more about auras. I didn’t mention his recordings in my review of the first book, but they are fascinating. In the world of Orea, some people have magic and some don’t.

To rule a kingdom, the king or queen must have magic, which is why Midas became king of the sixth kingdom. The ruling family has a son, a daughter, but she did not possess magic, so she had to marry someone who did. We assume that Auren has a magic of her own because she describes her bands to us in the first book. There are 12 sets of ligaments growing down her back on each side of her spine.

He can control any of the 24 ligaments just like he can control his own hands or legs, but we don’t see him using them much at Gild. With Glint, I was very happy to see Auren getting a little more confident with her ties and more confident in general. Seeing her recover was a joy because she is abused in the first book. She felt more like herself in Glint, which is ironic given that she spends most of the story as a prisoner of an enemy army.

Speaking of the enemy army, I really enjoyed meeting some of the other mounts with auras and some of the men and women of King Red (4th Kingdom)’s army, especially Commander Rip. When I met Commander Rip in the first book I knew I would love him and to say I love him is an understatement. I love it! I can’t wait to see where the romance and story will go, but one thing is for sure. I’m obsessed with this series.

I’ve loved every Raven Kennedy book I’ve read and the Plated Prisoner series is no exception. This book is magical. If you’re a fan of dark fantasies involving interesting magic with magnetic characters and fantastic writing, Plated Prisoners is a must-read series. Raven Kennedy has announced that she will have at least 4 books and I NEED book 3 URGENT! Be warned though, this book has an amazing ending that I didn’t see coming at all!

To update:

I just reread the series in preparation for the upcoming release of the 3 Gleam book and loved the series even more the second time around.

I haven’t been able to think about anything but Book 3 for almost 2 months. I dream about this series and I find myself dreaming about it any time of the day. My obsession is real and I think yours will be too if you watch this series. Now is the perfect time to get started because the third book will be out at the end of May!

If you’re a fan of dark fantasies involving interesting magic with magnetic characters and fantastic writing, Plated Prisoners is a must-read series. It’s quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite shows, and I think Raven Kennedy is a must read author on the subject of car buying. If you haven’t read his books yet, you’re really missing out on something amazing!

If Gild was the setting for the setting, Glint was lighting the match and lighting a powder keg! This review will contain gild spoilers, so if you haven’t read it, stop here 🙂

The book immediately picks up where we left off, as Auren is now in the hands of the Fourth Reich army led by the (literally) spiked Commander Rip, who earned his nickname for his reputation for ripping the heads off of his enemies . Feeling like she’s stepped out of the pirate skillet into enemy fire, Auren is wary and fearful, keeping her defenses on high alert.

But slowly but surely, the cracks that began to form in her trust in Midas in the first book deepen, and the more she finds herself in the Fourth’s camp, the more she realizes that she is not surrounded by lustful, bloodthirsty killers is , but by men and women. Women united in their loyalty and passion for their kingdom and king.

On the long and difficult journey through the Barrens to the Fifth Kingdom, where Auren will no doubt once again be at the mercy of two kings (King Midas and King Ravinger this time) to avoid war, she begins to lose her guard and befriends some from them. the people around her, who in return give her nothing but kindness, camaraderie, and encouragement… most surprisingly, the Commander himself comes closest to her, understanding her in more ways than she could have imagined. . With her feelings more conflicted than ever but her newfound confidence never stronger, Auren finds herself at a crossroads. But which path will he choose? Only time can tell.

This book. It was immaculate. Painful but precise in execution, we watch Auren’s slow dissolution and insight into all that she believed to be real. Seeing the parallels between his life in a cage with the golden king and a life of freedom, empowerment and choice with the rough and ragged army of the Fourth is very well articulated. Watching her reject everything, question, test the waters and then slowly start embracing everything is cathartic and really realistically develops her character after the prisoner disaster we encountered in the first book.

Watching her grapple with options, encouraging her to make the decision that’s best for her, and seeing her wrestle with her hopeful, innocent, misguided love for Midas was heartbreaking and definitely sets us up for a sure blast in the next book.

The new character attachments are priceless. Keg, Hojat and The Wrath have my heart 100% and I would steal a barrel of wine for the right flank any day! Rip is absolutely hot. Sharp and intimidating, but very understanding of Auras and their situation. I love that she challenges her where she needs it, but encourages her where she has been oppressed. I just want it everything about him hands down No questions asked.

I loved that we learned more about Auren’s past, the realm of the fae, and the lore/history of this world. I definitely feel like there’s more to unpack here! Politics has also increased significantly. With the Sixth now being mauled by Queen Malina, Midas appearing to take the throne in the Fifth, and the Third and Fourth now reunited in the Fifth Kingdom, the stage is definitely set for some power moves and I can’t wait to see what happens next next thing happens they have something planned together…especially King Rot.

Overall this book was fantastic. It hit all the right notes, had the perfect balance of everything, and walked the line between emotional yet entertaining storytelling. I can’t wait to get Gleam!
