Good Girl Bad Blood was a long-awaited novel to read and I bought it as soon as I finished the first novel in the trilogy, one that I loved and even put on my end-of-the-year list. Good Girl Bad Blood is a great sequel to this young adult crime novel called A Good Girls Guide to Murder, which I reviewed last July, but of course the format (with transcripts, a map, basically a lot of visual flourishes), in which Jackson’s debut novel was written was now expected, so the surprise effect wasn’t really there this time. It’s not that I didn’t appreciate him using the same techniques, I love how attractive it made him look again!

In the previous novel, Pip was looking for a murderer because he believed the police had jumped to the wrong conclusion, but this time he’s looking for a missing person, which means his investigation is more about finding clues than it is. suspects. She questions various people again, but I didn’t feel the same excitement as in the first novel when I started thinking more actively about who the villain could be.

The author set the bar high with her first novel, and while I’ve heard some readers say this one is even better, I’m not sure I feel the same way. Don’t get me wrong, Good Girl Bad Blood is a ‘very good novel’, but the best one so far is still the first, hands down (I have to admit I often feel that way).

There’s really no shame in keeping that second place as I still really enjoyed seeing Pip back in her element, taking big strides at a steady pace throughout the novel (she really is a young Veronica Mars and she does it very well). And I can only think of two little things that I wish I had seen differently.

The first is the fact that Ravi, Pip’s partner in the first novel, takes a rather secondary place in this one and I’ve missed that voice of reason at times, not to mention his positive and warm personality, and the other is that this a novel literally recapitulates everything that happened in the first novel spans several pages, and while I was pleased to have it jog my memory in this way, I don’t think readers who haven’t read the first novel will appreciate this, as there’s no importance. read the first in the series after you’ve read this one, so keep that in mind if you’re interested in reading it.

However, to say that I’m very excited to read Book 3 of the As Good As Dead series is an understatement (I’ll have to wait until August/September at least) because in this third story, Pip has a stalker and there’s a man behind the scenes. bars that is probably the wrong person, and a real-life serial killer on the loose. I’m really trying hard to keep my expectations in check this time, but it’s really hard with this series! So if you’re used to reading detective stories but new to young adults, this is absolutely a great series to start with!

After the brilliant A Good Girls Guide to Murder (voted one of the best YA of 2019), Pip is back with another page full of mystery.
I was a little worried if this new part will hold up to the first one. I can say that it works.
This book picks up right at the end of the previous book, where Pip has now become famous with her podcast sharing her first case with the world as she recounts the events along the way.

However, a new case arises, the older brother of one of her friends (Jamie) has disappeared, the police refuse to help, so Pip has to find him. All is not as it seems, however, as the brother acts strangely in the weeks leading up to his disappearance, leading to a mysterious girl Jamie spoke to online.

People try to keep secrets from her, but Pip is determined to find out the truth before it’s too late.
The book has the same format as the first with a narration along with interviews, talks and articles.
I like how the author developed the character of Pip.
As with the first novel, don’t be put off by the word “girl” in the title, all you’ll already enjoy is an exciting thriller.

The book will keep you guessing and guessing with great suspense until the very end, which means we’ll see more of Pip in the future. I will wait patiently for the next part
I highly recommend this novel.
