Catherine Bybee is a bestselling author for The Wall Street Journal, Amazon and Indie Reader. In addition, her books have also appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. In all, she has written thirty-six popular books that have collectively sold more than ten million copies and been translated into more than twenty languages.

Bybee grew up in Washington state and moved to Southern California in hopes of becoming a movie star. After getting bored with waiters, she went back to school and became a registered nurse, spending most of her career in city emergency rooms. She is now a full-time writer and has written the series The Not Quite, The Weekday Brides, The Most Likely To and The First Wives.

Raised in Washington state, Catherine Bybee is a child abuse survivor and teen who “graduated high school with the skin on my teeth.” Romance became a way of escaping reality: “Romance has saved my life many times, and I don’t mean that figuratively.”

Bybee moved to California in hopes of becoming an actress, but eventually ended up in nursing school and began working in city emergency rooms. However, Bybee’s nursing career was cut short when a fall while helping a patient transfer from a wheelchair to a gurney injured her back, leading to multiple surgeries over the course of seven years. During her recovery, she decided to take up writing: “I didn’t take many writing classes. I couldn’t spell myself out of a paper bag. But I had to learn.”

The strong support of the readers transformed Catherine’s life. She didn’t grow up with money and says what she appreciates most is how her success as an author has enabled her to improve other people’s lives. She hired a full-time assistant. “It’s great to keep people busy no matter how much they cry about it. I hope everyone gets to experience that.”

Written in the third person, this book is the first in a series and stands alone with a HEA.

At the beginning of the book, Brooke lives in Seattle with her partner, although I wouldn’t say she’s happy. When he gets a call that his father is very ill in California, he stands by his side. Thus begins a chain of events that will change Brooke’s life forever. Along the way, she meets Luca, a handsome Italian single father to the lovely Frannie.

There are many things I could relate to about Brooke’s relationship with her father. Although hers is certainly a lot more complicated than mine. Many of the conversations she has with her father as she tries to ensure that he is taken care of and that she remains solvent were very familiar to me. I felt the honesty in the way Brooke tries to hold her life together while being pulled in too many directions at the same time. He was honest, genuine, and his feelings were very similar to many of the feelings I’ve experienced over the years while caring for my parents. It touched me in such a way I haven’t felt in a long period of time.

Luke is amazing. He’s my friend from the book, y’all. Own. He’s sensitive, protective, a little grumpy, and super attractive. I love the connection he and Brooke experience from the start. I love how he is as a father, son and brother. I love that she acknowledges that her relationship with Brooke is MORE and that she is able to create a sweet sweet relationship with Frannie that made me melt. I really enjoyed the way he talks to Brooke’s dad. I loved the warmth between Luca and Brooke. There’s no way they could stay apart.

This was hands down my favorite read of the week and I’m sure it will be one of my best reads of the year. I 100% recommend you pick up this book. To be read and heard free of charge at the KU. You have no excuse not to fill your heart with this one.

When It Falls Apart is a beautifully written story about the perseverance and the dealing with all of the life’s shortcomings. I loved every page of it and couldn’t put it down! One of my favorite parts of the story was the author’s note and acknowledgments, in which Catherine reveals her own real-life experiences that led her to write such a personal story.

Catherine Bybee continues to offer all that and more. I’m not sure how she does it, but Catherine Bybee has once again gifted her readers with a remarkable book. If It Falls Apart is packed with all the heartbreaking, heartwarming moments and plot twists I love and expect in a Catherine Bybee love story, I especially loved the poignant, bittersweet moments that filled this page-turner. I love the lighter moments when I smile and laugh out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that tug at my heart and make me gasp as I read the heartbreaking moments.

When It Falls Apart is full of those moments and so much emotion. When It Falls Apart is the story of Brooke Turner and Gianluca “Luca” D’Angelo, chef at his family’s restaurant, D’Angelo’s, and single father to Francesca “Franny”. Brooke is his father, Joe’s director of advanced health care. The story begins with a call to Brooke about a medical emergency involving her father. Brooke drops everything and flies to her father. Brooke’s life changes because of her ill father’s condition.

He puts his father in an assisted living facility, moves to Little Italy in San Diego, and eventually rents a room above D’Angelo’s. Luca meets Brooke as she is taking her things to her room. The chemistry between Brooke and Luca is right from the start. I liked the candid conversation between Brooke and Luca where she reveals all about her relationship with her father and their marriages, her mother’s relationships and her last relationship with Marshall and Luca reveals all about his marriage and divorce.

When It Falls Apart is an incredible love story; I’m so glad Brooke and Lou are happily ever after again. I loved all the surprises that filled the pages of this love story, especially the necklaces Luca gives to Brooke and Franny. I love Brooke’s relationship with Franny. I love all the changes Brooke and Luca are willing to make to have a life together.

I love the plot twist that threatens Brooke and Lucas’ relationship. My favorite part was about Luca’s proposal and the location of the proposal. I love how the epilogue ends happily ever after. When It Falls Apart was full of outstanding characters, wonderful setting descriptions and incredible plot twists. Catherine Bybee’s descriptions are so real that I went straight to Little Italy with Brooke. I loved Luca’s mother Mari and the life lessons she passes on to Brooke.

I highly recommend this love story at first sight.

WHEN IT FALLS APART (The D’Angelo’s Book #1) by Catherine Bybee is the first book in a new contemporary romance series starring the close-knit Italian D’Angelo family, who own and live above the restaurant in the enchanting setting of Little Italy. in San Diego, California Each book will feature one of the D’Angelo brothers and their HEA romances.

This is one of those stories that grabs you and keeps you there until the HEA. Despite her terrible upbringing, Brooke is an amazing person. She is loving and often gives to her own detriment. Luca is the handsome Italian single father whose mother raised him well and is the chef. Who wouldn’t fall for that? The whole family, neighbors and supporting characters are brought to life with realistic and difficult situations that many of us have or will experience in the future.

The H/H in this story approach every situation with maturity and open communication. He loved Luca and Brooke and Franny and the whole D’Angelo family.
