The last person on earth I want to be stranded with is Gianni Lupo.

But thanks to the blizzard of the century, I’m stuck in a roadside motel room with that cocky bastard two days in a row.

Melanie Harlow’s Taste was a highly anticipated book, so I didn’t read its premise or any reviews. If you want to be amazed like me, pick it up now and make it. It is the second generation of the Cloverleigh/Frenched series, but can also be read independently without any problems.

Growing up, Gianni and Ellie teased and teased and toyed with each other, but deep down, their affection for each other continued to blossom. The dual perspective beautifully describes their feelings for each other; You get a clear picture of how much Gianni and Ellie meant to each other as children and teenagers.

It takes a blizzard + a bed for them to finally release their sexual tension. During their winter vacation, her feelings and vulnerability come to the fore. What follows is an unfortunate accident that they both try to process, but due to the past, the trust is difficult to understand.

Ellie has a hard time trusting Gianni, and it takes her a long time to realize that he’s different, that he’s not a guy who worries about his next wife or affair anymore. Ellie’s constant distrust is annoying at first; you want to yell at him and yell, “let him go and just believe in him.” However, I can resonate with her; I know how it feels to be in a relationship with a man who has a reputation for cheating and secretly staring at other women. Doubt tugs and tugs at you no matter what you say. Ellie: I hear you girl.

Ah, but Gianni… pouring out his soul for this woman. He is kind, caring, considerate and very attentive. What he’s going through to prove how important Ellie is to him is honestly heaven. You want this man to support you… to hold you… to protect you from the pain of this world. Gianni is wholeheartedly! And this HEA. hell again! I may have shed a few tears.

I highly recommend this small town rom-com full of thrills and laughs.

This book, like all Cloverleigh Farms books, had me completely drowned in emotion from start to finish. Melanie Harlow knows how to write heart-tugging and emotionally tearing stories before building you up again. And with the story of Ellie and Gianni, he’s done that and more. Even though I read the blurb when the book was announced I didn’t look at it before reading it and I’m very happy because everything that happened surprised me and I’m very grateful for it.

While it is not necessary to read these books in order, it is important to note that Ignite and Taste introduce the next generation of characters from the Melanie books. So if you don’t want spoilers for the original series, I suggest you read them first. But taste can be enjoyed completely independently anyway.

When we first saw Ellie and Gianni’s relationship unfold on Ignite, I knew I would love everything about their story. Since their mothers are best friends and grew up together, Ellie and Gianni have been together for a long time. Enough to drive each other crazy with childhood pranks and pranks, teenage hormones and feelings, and basically a life of wanting to kill the other person.

He’s more of a lover’s friend than anything, and I liked that because I realized from the first chapter that Gianni has big feelings for Ellie, even if he’s very good at ignoring her. I loved their banter, the constant jostling between them and I really enjoyed seeing how they could irritate each other. In general, these characters are fantastic. But together? Explosive.

Ellie is such an amazing character: driven, passionate, focused and serious about her work. But she also often leans on her friends and family, although she feels she can never live up to her parents’ expectations of her. I loved his cheekiness, sarcasm and general attitude. He made every scene interesting because the character is so complete. I also felt his difficulty in trusting Gianni and trying not to throw all his mistakes in his face. Speaking of Gianni… wooie. Melanie Harlow knows how to write dazzling, charismatic heroes.

I like that, even though he has all these positive traits, is his arrogant and smug side a bit frustrating? As a reader, you love the Gianni, but also you want to smack him for being the Gianni. One of my favorite things about him was that he put Ellie first in everything he did, even when he didn’t realize he was doing it and even when she kept pushing him away.

Your relationship is beautiful! With a snowstorm trapping them in a one bed motel, you know it’s going to get really hot real quick. But I liked that a bed wasn’t an invitation to undress immediately. If anything, the way they built really added a layer to their relationship. They have amazing chemistry and with each truth revealed you can see how much it increases!

Despite his audacity and arrogance, I loved how smooth Gianni was with Ellie. I appreciated how much attention he gave her and how Ellie returned the favor. Their physical relationship was just the right amount of warmth. I love all the steam in my romances, but unlike Ignite (which was CRAZY HOT), this one was just the right temperature. I loved that every time they were together they deepened their feelings for each other because I loved them so much.

I think my only complaint about the story was that the conflict dragged on a little longer than I would have liked. I know it was about building trust and Gianni proving himself, but I think I wish it had all come out a little earlier. But I love being submissive, I love how independent and strong Ellie is in the face of something so new and scary. I loved seeing Winnie again and so looking forward to Felicity’s book.
